The Record Projection: 45-37 of fromal The Bet: Prevent but lean under
The Milwaukee Bucks would want to win six matches in 2017-18 than they did throughout the 2016-17 campaign, to give over bettors a payout. That is not an unreasonable leap for such a young and talented group, but it’s still a bit unrealistic–even in the diminished Eastern Conference.
Upside pervades this roster. Just imagine how good the heart of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, Malcolm Brogdon, Jabari Parker and Thon Maker could turn into. Throw D.J. Wilson, Tony Snell and Greg Monroe into the equation.
But questions persist.
Parker might not go back to the lineup until after the All-Star break as he rehabs the next torn ACL of his basketball career, which puts an inordinate quantity of pressure on either Antetokounmpo or one of those unproven kids to shoulder moments at power forward.
Maker is by no means a lock to become valuable in 2017-18, and regression could hit Brogdon after his Rookie of the Year campaign.
The Bucks will be fun. They ought to be thought of a playoff lock. But their development may not be as quick as some expect unless all of the crucial pieces remain healthy and don’t force the coaching staff to rely on a less exciting bench.
