Hugo Lloris says Tottenham are still not built to win the Champions League, regardless of their conduct to the season.
Spurs made the two in their history but that they finally fell short at Madrid against Liverpool.
The challenge now will be to prove was not only a one time, however the Tottenham captain believes it is a demanding request when they are up against teams with more calibre inside this competition.
“I think with a great deal of humility there are some clubs that have the profile to win Champions League every season – historically and using the talent they have in the group,” Lloris stated.
“They put a stamp on this competition. That’s not the case for Tottenham.
“However, as we saw last year, what’s possible when you’ve got the belief, the talent and the discipline. Why not be?
“But obviously we’ve got a different profile to this kind of team – Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. That type of club.
“It’s not a lack of vision. When we go to the pitch, it’s to win, whoever will be the opponent facing us. We don’t need to appear too far forward.”
Spurs’ team is full of ability and the likes of Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Jan Vertonghen are reaching the peak of their careers.
Lloris is currently expecting they all could play their role to assist Spurs get online over and win their first trophy.
“Now we have arrived at an era where we’ve got the experience to have an impact to the group,” he added.
“Hopefully we will go in exactly the same way.
“When you arrive in a level, the main thing is to do everything to stay at precisely the same level, especially the amount we arrived at last calendar year, since the runner-up of this Champions League.
“It is not a shame. We’re doing something we’re building something strong.
“However we cannot drop the degree. We need to create the consistency to improve, to get much closer to what we are all looking for – trophies.”
