(CNN) — There’s a special bond between German football club Union Berlin and its lovers and the proximity of that relationship was honored in a poignant way during the weekend because the group made its Bundesliga debut.
Ahead of Saturday’s match against RB Leipzig, Union assistants held up placards of deceased loved ones with the inscription”Edlich dabei” (Eventually there).
The deceased were counted from the attendance. The Stadion An der Alten F??rsterei’s official capacity is currently listed as 22,402, but Saturday’s attendance was recorded as 22,467.
The stadium, which is the football ground in Berlin, was opened in 1920, but has experienced a series of modifications through the years the refurbishment and roof of the standing areas between June 2008 and July 2009.
According to the club website, Union fans”built their very own arena,” with over 2,300 volunteers supplying 140,000 hours of labour time, helping the Berlin group save countless dollars.

An assortment of fan groups organized saturday’s tribute, together with pictures of the fans as the club’s anthem rang out raised before kick-off. The costs of the tickets had been paid for by fans.
But, Union’s debut to the Bundesliga proved that a tough one — that they were hammered 4-0 from Leipzig.
Last year Union finished third in the second grade of German football to make a playoff against VfB Stuttgart.
Union’s subsequent two-legged success and marketing watched the club become the first from the fifth and East Berlin from the former East Germany to obtain passage.
